Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has been working on its next Local Plan, 'Future Mole Valley'. The project will set out plans for land use in the District for the next 15 years; it will include targets for delivering new development as well as setting out those areas which will continue to be protected for landscape, heritage or nature conservation purposes.

The finally adopted Local Plan will form the basis on which planning applications will be determined in Mole Valley, replacing the saved policies from the 2000 Mole Valley Local Plan, the 2009 Core Strategy and the 2012 Dorking Town Area Action Plan.
The Local Plan was approved by the MVDC Cabinet on the 14th January, when it was also agreed to make clear in the Executive Summary of the report that it was a Draft plan, and liable to change following consultation. The report (link below) for that meeting includes the FUTURE MOLE VALLEY 2018-2033 CONSULTATION DRAFT LOCAL PLAN in Annex 1.
The MVDC Cabinet meeting on the 14th January can be viewed via their webcasting service: https://molevalley.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/447719
A full Council meeting on the 28th January will be asked to endorse the draft plan as meeting Government requirements for the consultation.
Consultation & Publicity Exhibitions
The consultation period will still start on 3rd February but has been extended by a week to 23rd March following requests by Bookham, Leatherhead and Fetcham Residents Associations.
A publicity campaign during the period of consultation is planned by MVDC, with a series of exhibitions around the District where officials will be available to answer questions. Due to the comparatively limited direct impact upon Fetcham, there is no Fetcham Exhibition currently scheduled.
Fetcham residents are strongly encouraged by the FRA to:
- ATTEND one of the exhibitions listed here, http://futuremolevalley.org/january-2020-update/
- SUBMIT your comments about the plan to MVDC. (via the MVDC website - only during the Consultation Period)
- TELL US about your comments about the plan to enable the FRA to represent you in our own discussions with other Residents Associations and with MVDC. (Send us a Comment in the Leave a Reply box at the foot of this post.)
Dates and venues listed in the immediate neighbourhood are:
|Monday 17th February||North Leatherhead Community Centre||3pm-7pm|
|Monday 24th February||Leatherhead Community Association (G6 / Larkin Room)||3pm-7pm|
|Wednesday 4th March||Bookham Old Barn Hall||3pm-7pm|
|Saturday 7th March||Leatherhead Community Association (G6 / Larkin Room)||10am-2pm|
Local Plan Consultation Process
Following the consultation the draft plan will be submitted for review by a government inspector, who will take evidence from interested parties including developers, residents, etc, including residents associations.
The Inspector will consider whether the local plan is ‘sound’ and will make recommendations to the Council.
The Council will then consider final amendments and a final Local Plan will be put forward to councillors for approval.
