Christmas in Fetcham Village

Hits: 116

The FRA events team has been working hard to give the village that all-important Christmas feel - in spite of the Covid restrictions.

New for this year is the Wishing Tree (pictured above) on the north side of the mini-roundabout.  Earlier this month the FRA gave children at Fetcham Infants School wooden tree decorations.

We asked them to write a wish on each one and then hang it on the tree.  If you have the chance, please go and have a look!

FRA events organizer Sara Gyngell says: “If any other children would like to add a decoration with a wish, then please do so.  Just make sure its wildlife safe.

“They flutter in the breeze, look so pretty and make delightful reading!"

This year's Christmas tree - kindly donated by Squires Garden Centre Stoke d'Abernon

The Christmas tree has been in place since December 6th, and we’re very grateful to Squires garden centre of Stoke d’Abernon for providing it. Thanks to Harringtons for once again allowing us to connect to their power supply.

The team has also put lights around the FRA planters outside the parade of shops, and even put some Christmas banners over the top of the old Tudor Motors signage.

Many of you will know that each year the Meeting Room charity, which provides support for homeless, vulnerable and socially isolated people in our area, holds a Christmas Lunch event in Fetcham Village Hall.

Sadly this cannot take place this year, but Meeting Room volunteers will be delivering a full Christmas lunch to about 50 of their regular clients.

If you would like to help, or would like to make a donation, please go to the Meeting Room website (link) for more details, or email themeetingroom123@gmail.com.

The FRA is pleased to be making a donation of £250 to help with their efforts.

Last month the FRA purchased two Tablet computers for the Bellsgrove care home in the Cobham Road.  The home's manager Kress Balloo kindly sent us some pictures.

With visits made more difficult because of Covid, we hope the Tablets will make it easier for the residents to see and talk to family and friends.  You can read more about our donation here.

The FRA wishes all the readers of this website, wherever you are, a Happy Christmas and all good wishes for 2021.
